PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Peoria County plow drivers are reporting that roads are still very slick and icy outside of the City of Peoria.
Mark Gilles, with the Peoria County Highway Department, says crews have been out salting and plowing since Monday night, but there are still spots that could be a bit treacherous.
“It just seems like the roads that get less traveled, there’s less traffic to get that salt in, to get it working…it takes longer to make it effective. Hills, bridge decks, low-lying areas, there are still intermittent slick spots out there…drivers need to use caution,” Gilles says.
With temperatures still hovering around freezing, Gilles says drivers should give themselves extra stopping distance, especially at the intersections.
Peoria County plows are still out salting and plowing the more rural roads of the county.
Gilles asks drivers to give plow drivers plenty of room to do their job.
