WASHINGTON, D.C. – 17th District Congressman Eric Sorensen says he and members of a House caucus have worked on legislation that he believes will save consumers money while holding some businesses accountable.
It’s a plan divided into eight sections that the East Moline Democrat says will reduce prices and provide more middle class jobs.
One of those sections, Sorensen says, would lower prescription drug costs if enacted.
“We’ve got too many people today that have outrageous bills when they go and pick up their prescriptions at the drug counter,” said Sorensen (D-East Moline). “We need to understand that this is happening on the backs of people who are struggling to make ends meet, including our seniors.”
Sorensen, speaking to reporters Wednesday on Zoom, claims what he called “Big Pharma” is utilizing “delay tactics” to avoid lowering drug costs.
Other parts of the plan address the supply chain, workforce development, energy prices, and agriculture.
While Sorensen says the plan helps virtually the entire 17th District and many Americans, will it get Republican support if ever voted on?
“We have to understand there is this partisan divide in Congress today, and understanding that we have that. That’s the elephant in the room. What I want to do is go around the elephant and find the people that are sitting here in the corners, find the people in the back, that want to get the job done.”
Sorensen claims he believes 85 percent of Congress actually wants to do the work.
