PEORIA, Ill. – He no longer faces Attempted Murder charges, but a Peoria man will go to prison for most of the next two decades after a shooting incident and standoff with police a year and a half ago.
Peoria County Circuit Court records indicate LaMarcus Chappell, 32, was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a single count of Aggravated Battery.
In exchange, Attempted Murder and Home Invasion charges were dropped.
Police went to a home in the Aspen Bluff apartment complex on Lavalle Court in October of 2021 for a reported domestic incident, but Chappell allegedly fired at them when they arrived.
A woman inside the apartment also was shot. Five children in the home weren’t hurt.
Chappell must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he can be released, under Illinois law, counting credit for time already served.
