PEORIA, Ill. – “Howie” at Phoenix Community Development Services needs your help.
“‘Howie’ is a specialized vehicle that we have. It stands for ‘Hygiene On Wheels Independence Empowered,’” said Jolene Whisler, Resources Development Manager at Phoenix Community Development Services, to WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show.” “Howie goes out into the community to those who are experiencing homelessness. He has two showers, two washers and dryers, and two toilets on board.”
Whisler says “Howie” has been out in the community for more than a year now, and it needs items homeless can use, from from towels and shampoo to foot warmers and meals ready to eat.
“We are looking for items for folks that are living on the street that would be helpful and useful for them…hats, mittens, coats, hand warmers, simple meals that they can eat,” said Dr. Eileen Setti, Vice President, Phoenix Community Development Services.
Setti says that list also includes things like towels, toiletries, and other items.
The “Help Fill Howie” drive will travel to various locations in the agency’s four-county area over the next several days.
