PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury met Tuesday and filed charges in a number of cases — adding charges in some cases, not filing charges in others, and affirming originally-filed charges in more.
The grand jury did not file a Hate Crime charge against Jaylan Appleberry, 27 (pictured above). Instead, it filed two counts of Aggravated Battery.
Appleberry allegedly hit the victim with his car August 22nd on Northeast Adams Street in the North Valley, causing broken bones. He then allegedly got out of the car and attacked the man.
An armed robbery charge prosecutors had wanted also was not filed by the grand jury.
Appleberry was let out of jail last week. He’s due in court to be arraigned October 6th.
Counts of Aggravated Battery and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon are being filed against Jay’vion Lee, 22.
Police went to an area near Western and Wiswall September 8th on a ShotSpotter alert of 23 rounds being fired. They learned that a juvenile girl was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury.
Lee is jailed on $500,000 bond, and will be arraigned Thursday.
The grand jury filed charges of Aggvated Battery, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Assault against Jerrell Hardges, 29.
Hardges told investigators August 17th he had been hit by a car near the Harrison Homes complex. But, officers learned it
happened after Hardges allegedly shot at the car.
Hardges is out of jail, but has been ordered to be arraigned November 10th.
The driver of the car only sustained a minor injury.
