EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The Penguin Project got its start here in Central Illinois, and has spread across the nation with over 60 affiliate groups.
The project gives young people with different abilities an opportunity to be stars on stage, but some performers have aged out. That’s where the Penguin Players takes over.
Mary Zell, a long-time mentor with the Penguin Project, is a first-time director with the Penguin Players this year.
She tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, about their new production… “Back to the 80s”.
“It’s so fun and colorful, I think it just fits our cast perfectly. It’s a musical with medley of 80s hits…Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Love Shack, Man In The Mirror, Video Killed The Radio Star,” Zell said.
“Back To The 80s” is being performed at ICC’s Main Stage Theater in East Peoria this weekend.
