I subscribe to an email newsletter from the Author, Gretchen Rubin, and if you know me, that little fact would seem very off. I’ve never been what you might classify as a book reader, but now and then I will pick one up and spend a little time with it.
I said that, to say this…Gretchen sends me an email each week of “5 Things Making Me Happy” and it’s a wonderful part of my day. We don’t spend enough time thinking about things that make us happy at the moment, we just go about our days answering emails, sitting in meetings, running to the store to pick up lunch stuff for the kids, or running them some sort of practice. So today, and hopefully each week, I will spend some time thinking about at least 5 Things Making Me Happy and encourage you to do the same thing. Here is today’s list:
- Yesterday I took a little tour of the small town of Elkheart, Il. The happiness it gave me to listen to the thoughts and memories from my “tour guide” as she mentioned the pond they used to swim in, the house she grew up in with Grandma and Grandpa living right across the street, driving past a guy that she babysat while growing up.

- Bees. I’m finally starting to see bees buzzing around in my yard on my flowering plants collecting as much good as they can to take back to the hive, or to other plants around town. I even spent some time just staring at a couple of bee hives that were set up, realizing just how relaxing it was to watch them work.
- Getting ready to go on vacation. This one is pretty self-explanatory I think.
- Sitting in my office listening to the sound of John & Stephanie laughing and giggling as Stephanie realizes she is as tall, as a desk is wide…and to prove it, she laid on the empty desk of the nearby cubicle. Fit perfectly
- I love the color of a beautiful sunset…you can not only see the brightness of the orange sky, but you hear the sounds around more clearly.

What is making you happy this week? I’d love to hear what is making you happy, and the possible story behind it.
