PEORIA, Ill. – The second attempt by Peoria County prosecutors to try a local man for one of the first homicides of 2021 has been unsuccessful.
Court records indicate a jury Thursday found Marvin Sanders, 32, not guilty on two counts of First-Degree Murder.
Sanders, who represented himself at trial, was injured in a shooting January 29, 2021 near Adams and Easton in South Peoria.
Another man, Jevon Gilliam, 31, died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The first trial for Sanders earlier this year ended in a mistrial after jurors deadlocked.
Two other people arrested on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in the shooting — Jamere Laster and Dearian Patterson — still await trial.
