PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police are announcing details about new gun arrests as new police Chief Eric Echavarria holds a promise to crack down on violent criminals, including those who misuse firearms.
Peoria police say officers were conducting a traffic stop along Spalding Avenue just after 3 a.m. Saturday.
When they walked up to the window of the car, officers say they spotted ammunition laying in the lap of the driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man named Jaron Tunks.
Ultimately, Tunks and his passenger were arrested when officers found an illegal firearm hidden under the passenger seat and more ammunition as well.
The passenger is identified as Kendall A. Mack.
Both men face charges of Unlawful use of A weapon while Tunks faces numerous other Illinois weapons violations.
Both men were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
