PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Public School Board is okaying a partnership between the district and JOLT Harm Reduction.
The deal allows them to use the Wraparound Center inside Trewyn School to provide some COVID-19 resources, distribute NARCAN, and conduct testing for HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases.
But, board members had concerns Monday night.
“I think what our concern is as the school board who is essentially voting on letting in a new organization to one of our buildings, is, is this specifically for District 150 families?” asked District 3 board member Doctor Anni Reinking.
The district says while over 80 percent of the users of the services at the Wraparound Center are district families, it’s open to anyone in Peoria County.
“I’m not overly concerned about the clientele obtaining the service,’ said District 2 board member Lynne Costic. “I’m concerned about the safety of the children in that facility.”
The board was reassured that users of the Center can’t get in to any other part of Trewyn School, because they have to be buzzesd in to Center.
The board ended up approving the agreement with the Jolt Foundation unanimously.
