PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Riverfront Museum is calling it an “unprecedented partnership” that will help the home country of a significant portion of the city’s population.
“From Peoria to Lebanon” is the newest exhibit at the museum starting Wednesday, and is going beyond just a display of original specially-made Lebanese art.
“Together, we use the arts to lift up humanity,” said John Morris, Peoria Riverfront Museum President and CEO. “And, we bring a never-before-seen access to the leading contemporary artists of Lebanon today. These artists have never been seen in the United States together, before, in this way.”
A large bomb blast in Beirut in August of 2020, killing more than 200 and injuring thousands, and Morris says “From Lebanon to Peoria” will be, in part, a fundraiser helping provide medical care to people in that country.
“This [is a] diverse array of artwork — from drawing, sculpture, painting, and enormous use of color, and really kind of plumbing the depths of the human condition today,” said Bill Conger, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions.
There also will be a concert performance by pianist Doctor Tony Karam, several showings of a documentary film on Lebanon, and other fundraisers, all benefiting the American University in Lebanon, as they help the country recover from the blast.
