PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County judge has given a Peoria man life in prison for his role in a 2019 shooting death that happened in the city’s East Bluff Neighborhood.
Court records indicate Breon Jones, 29, was sentenced to life on a charge of First-Degree Murder, and fourteen years in prison for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He was convicted at a bench trial in September.
Jones and Prentice Augusta, 30, were arrested in early August of 2019 for roles in connection with the death of Marshawn Tolliver, 38, — shot in the 2900 block of North Peoria Avenue.
The Journal Star reports Judge John Vespa gave Jones the life sentence because of his prior criminal history, and because he “never wanted to listen to or to submit to authority.”
A hearing in Augusta’s felony weapons case is scheduled for January 27th.
