CHICAGO, Ill. – Governor JB Pritzker says he just doesn’t understand what the big deal is about vaccine mandates, especially when it may come to those that may come down the line for children.
Pritzker was asked about that Tuesday, as he got his COVID-19 booster, especially as it may relate to some sort of COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
“If there was an approval of that — and I haven’t seen that on the horizon — but if there were an approval of that, then that would just be another one of those vaccinations that kids get,” said Pritzker.
Pritzker says the Illinois General Assembly would have to approve any mandate.
Pritzker got the booster at a federally-qualified health center operated by the University of Illinois-Chicago. UIC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Doctor Bob Barish, says the UI Health System endorses the vaccines.
“We’ve always followed the science,” said Barrish. “We conducted some of the earliest COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials, and we know well the important layer of safety the vaccine provides to everyone.”
As for what booster he got, Pritzker says he was recommended Pfizer, though he says his own reading would have made a “mix-and-match” scenario okay.
