PEORIA, Ill. – Megan Rahn wants answers when it comes to race and race relations in the area.
That’s why she and others have organized a rally happening Saturday at 4pm in Tremont’s City Park. Rahn tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” she has a 12-year-old adopted brother who’s from Haiti and who has received extremely bad treatment from his neighbors.
“He has been called the ‘N’ word several times,” sais Rahn. “There’s been multiple things. That’s not even scratching the surface.”
Rahn says her brother would come home from school regularly since third grade with tears streaming down his face knowing he’s not embraced and treated the same as everyone else.
Rahn says she knows her brother isn’t the only one.
At least, if some comments she got prior to the rally are any indication.
“We’re going to have a few speakers — a few speakers who are organized,” says Rahn. “Then, we’re going to have a portion that’s anonymous. I’ve gotten responses from people within the town who desire change. They’re given me their anonymous responses, and they want to keep it anonymous. So, I’ll share those.”
Rahn says local religious leaders will also speak.
And, yes, Rahn says she knows similar race-related issues are happening not just in Tremont, but everywhere in this area.
