PEORIA, Ill. — The Jaws of Life had to be used Friday afternoon by the Peoria Fire Department in response to an accident in the 2800 block of SW Washington St. just before 2:00 p.m. that involved a semi.
When crews arrived, they found one occupant in a small sedan type vehicle unresponsive entrapped inside.
According to Battalion Chief Steve Rada, the vehicle struck a large semi-truck almost head-on causing major damage and intrusion into the vehicle.
After using the Jaws of Life to free the victim, firefighters climbed through the rear window to stabilize them.
After being loaded onto a stretcher, the victim became semi-responsive, according to Rada.
Their injuries were considered life-threatening and serious.
Peoria Fire Department Paramedics assisted with treating the victim while en route to the hospital.
