PEORIA, Ill. – It’s costing you a little bit more to fill up your car in the Peoria area.
GasBuddy says the average price Monday is $3.28/g, which is 6.6 cents higher than a week ago. The average is 8.0 cents higher than one month ago, but 17.3 cents lower than one year ago.
Triple A is also reporting a $3.28/g average for the Peoria-Pekin metro area Monday, 4.7 cents higher than a week ago. Their average is 6.9 higher than one month ago, but 16.6 cents higher than one year ago.
GasBuddy says the cheapest price Sunday in the Peoria area was $3.09/g, with the most expensive at $3.39/g.
GasBuddy reports the Illinois average is at $3.25/g, up 3.2 cents from last week.
Analysts says the national average, sitting at $3.11/g, is increasing due to sharp price increases on the West Coast, with ripple effects in neighboring states through refinery maintenance and outages. But the effects could reach elsewhere.
“Although the surge remains isolated to the West for now, refinery maintenance will soon begin in other regions, and with the transition to summer gasoline blends underway, prices in most areas are likely to start rising in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, oil prices remain subdued in the low $70s as President Trump works on a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine— an event that, if realized, could have significant implications for oil markets in the months ahead,” says Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
