BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a Richwoods High School in Bloomington in April of 2022.
Bloomington Police say 20-year-old Tomiyale Anderson of Hampton, Georgia was arrested Wednesday night in the death of 17-year-old Kanye Stowers. He was arrested by the United States Marshals Service, with assistance from Bloomington Police and the Transportation Security Administration.
Anderson was indicted last week by the Bloomington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division in Stowers’ murder.
The shooting occurred the evening of April 8th outside of a home near Mill and Gridley Streets, with Stowers’ pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed he died from a single gunshot wound.
Anderson is charged with three counts of murder with the intent to kill or injure, attempt to murder with the intent to kill or injure, murder with a strong probably to kill or injure, and aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied building.
“The pain of the Stowers family because of the loss of a loved one has been felt throughout the police department. The tenacity shown to resolve this case is a testament to the hard work done by the men and women of the Bloomington Police Department. This takes us one step closer to finding justice for Mr. Stowers and his family,” said Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington in a statement.
Stowers’ mother, Tomeka Love, in a Facebook post after the arrest says her prayers were answered, and “thank u so much god i did it i didnt give up on u son justice will be served i promise u that pray 4 me my friends and family i need all yall support today.”
