PEORIA, Ill. – Two teenagers have been arrested after allegedly stealing a car from the Peoria International Airport.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says 18-year-old Jamar Deese and a 16-year-old boy, both from the Peoria area, were taken into custody early Thursday morning and charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of ammo with no FOID card, obstructing police and burglary to motor vehicles.
Around 12:10 a.m., a deputy patrolling the PIA parking lot found a vehicle that had been burglarized. While checking the lot, the deputy also observed a car driving around the overflow area.
Deese and the 16-year-old tried to run off as the deputy approached the vehicle. They were caught by several other deputies who found them hiding in the lot.
The car had been stolen earlier in the night from the PIA parking lot.
Watkins says multiple shotgun shells, .22 caliber ammo, rifle magazine and two pellet rifles were found during a search of the vehicle.
Deese was taken to the Peoria County Jail. The 16-year-old was taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center..
Watkins reminds people to not leave keys in their cars, especially when parking at the airport.
