PEORIA, Ill. – The Illinois Attorney General’s Office may be investigating Peoria public television station WTVP over the alleged misspending of funds.
That was learned during a special meeting of the board of directors of the station’s parent organization Tuesday.
The station says it’s received a request from the AG’s office relating to the station’s ongoing review of what has been termed questionable, improper, or unauthorized spending.
WTVP says they are cooperating, and that they’ve also filed a report with Peoria Police, and are cooperating with them as well.
Station president and CEO Lesley Matuszak resigned September 27th, and died a day later.
Since then, nine employees have been laid off, Peoria Magazine has been at least temporarily taken out of print, and $1.5 million has been cut from the station’s budget.
