PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria man found down at the scene of a Peoria Police shooting scene was not hit by gunfire – he was hit by a car.
That’s the finding of Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, now that he’s conducted an autopsy on Kobe Johnson, 24 – pronounced dead at a local hospital early Saturday morning.
Peoria Police had gone to Thrush and Knoxville after 12:30 Saturday morning after a reported nine rounds were fired, and found Johnson down.
Harwood says Johnson died of “multiple blunt force trauma and crush injuries,” despite the ShotSpotter alert there.
It’s not clear if the death is being investigated as a homicide, but the investigation into just what happened continues.
