PEORIA, Ill. – Two developments are in the works that will provide housing to low-income and homeless Peoria residents.
One is going to go on the former site of Methodist College near downtown and will be called “Phoenix Manor.” The other will be “Churchill Garden Homes” in South Peoria.
Both are public-private partnerships that, through tax credits received this week, will cover 80 percent of the costs.
“To have two affordable housing projects is huge for Peoria. This project is a $24 million project,” said Community Development Director Joe Dulin, to 25 News. “That’s not only providing affordable housing for our homeless families, but also construction jobs.”
City money is also involved in the project.
Phoenix Community Development Services and Home For All Continuum of Care are partnering on the projects. They’ll provide health care, financial education, and other things for the residents.
“What’s really incredible about that is it will functionally allow us to serve all of the families who are experiencing homelessness in our continuum care,” said Home for All Continuum of Care Executive Director Kate Green, to 25 News.
An estimated 105 homes or rooms will be made available with the two projects.
