SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Job numbers in Illinois continue to see improvements.
The state’s unemployment rate for the month of May was reported at 4.1%, a decrease of 0.1% from the previous month.
The state also added around 2,500 jobs in May. The biggest increases were seen in the financial activities, government, leisure and hospitality, and education and health services sectors.
But the state saw decreases in jobs in the construction and manufacturing industries.
Department of Employment Security Acting Director Ray Marchiori says the numbers are good news.
“Overall, we’re seeing indicators of continued economic stability, with continued job growth across industry sectors throughout the state,” Marchiori said. “And a consistent unemployment rate, including labor force participation rate, higher than pre-pandemic levels.”
The national unemployment rate of 3.7% is slightly lower than Illinois’ rate.
