PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – The suspect in a Friday morning shooting in Dunlap has received charges related to the shooting.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says around 11:30 a.m., 26-year-old Walter Artis of Peoria was located by officers at a gas station on Morton Avenue in Morton, as he tried to get away on foot. His vehicle was found nearby.
Deputies were called to an apartment in the area of N. Brentfield and W. Timberdale Drives in Dunlap around 9:20 Friday morning.
The 22-year-old female victim is listed in critical condition. The Sheriff’s Office says she has children in common with Artis.
Artis is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Home Invasion, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and No Valid FOID. The Sheriff’s Office says more charges could be coming.
He is booked at the Peoria County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office adds the investigation is still active.

The victim’s injuries are life-threatening.
Peoria and Morton Police, Peoria County investigators and Illinois State Police helped apprehend the suspect.

DUNLAP, Ill. — A woman was shot Friday morning in Dunlap and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the known suspect.
26-year-old Walter Artis described as a black man, 6 foot 3 inches tall and 190 pounds.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says Artis is believed to be driving a black 2010 Nissan Rogue with the license plate of DL57433.
Deputies were called to an apartment in the area of N. Brentfield and W. Timberdale Drives around 9:20 a.m. Friday.
The victim has life-threatening injuries. She was found with a gunshot wound when deputies arrived.
Artis should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or his vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately.
