DUNLAP, Ill. – A juvenile is in custody after Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says a student brought a gun to Dunlap Middle School Friday.
Watkins says detectives were called there at 3:43 p.m. after a 14-year-old student had brought an unloaded gun to school “to show friends.”
The gun was allegedly found in a backpack, and authorities say there were not any threats made to the school related to the gun.
Nevertheless, Watkins says the department takes such calls seriously, and the juvenile is charged with Possession of a Weapon.
He says investigators searched the child’s home to see how he may have had access to the gun.
