PEORIA, Ill. – New policies will be taking effect this month at Dozer Park for the 2023 Peoria Chiefs season.
Manager of Media Relations Cody Schindler says the new policies are being encouraged by Major League Baseball for minor league teams.
A couple of the policies relate to going digital. One of them is going to a nearly cashless system at the stadium this year. Tickets, concessions, and the bar and lounge areas in the suite level are some of the areas that will only take debit or credit cards this year.
“The pitch clock keeps the game moving. So we don’t want fans to spend too much time in the concession line, so we think this is part of it,” Schindler said.
Schindler adds cash will still be accepted in The Firehouse Team Store. It will also be accepted during the Education and Splash Day games where more children are expected to be in attendance.
Fans buying single-game tickets day-of this year will have the tickets texted to them on their phone, seconds after purchase. The text will contain a link to open the digital ticket to be scanned for entry into the game.
“It’s such a digital world nowadays, so I think we’re just kinda trying to follow the trend and really go from there,” Schindler says.
Those who buy single-game tickets in advanced can still have an option to print the tickets at home.
Another new policy for 2023 that will be implemented is geared towards safety.
“We always want to make sure that our fans feel safe, and a clear bag policy is just another way that everyone can keep an eye on things,” Schindler says.
The clear bag policy will go into effect on April 17th before the series with Fort Wayne. Schindler says they wanted to give fans a chance to plan ahead. The Chiefs plan on giving out clear bags to fans at Saturday’s game against Cedar Rapids.
A policy that is coming back for 2023 is letting eligible veterans into games 10 minutes early with a valid ID. They can be accompanied by one ticketed guest through the early entry gate.
