UPDATED 3:54 p.m.
PEORIA, Ill. – An investigation is underway after a body was found in the Illinois River.
Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says the discovery was made at around 11:00 A.M. north of the Riverplex.
“We had a witness walking down the bike path. They saw what appeared to be a person in the water, that appeared to be dead to them,” Echevarria said.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the body was found partly submerged in the water, and is that of a 58-year-old female from Peoria, who had been reported missing last night.
Harwood says the name is being withheld so that other family members can be notified. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
