PEORIA, Ill. – No matter how the balance of power may be shaking out in Congress, one local lawmaker may soon have some more responsibility.
16th District Congressman Darin LaHood is in line to chair the National Republican Congressional Committee.
LaHood, speaking to reporters after his own Midterm Election victory, is pleased with the work he’s done for the committee as its finance chair.
“We raised a record amount of money — most in the history of the NRCC — $300 million,” said LaHood (R-Dunlap). “I’m proud of the work that I did, and I was in charge of doing that.”
Some reports have labeled the Dunlap Republican as an “underdog” to move up as chair of the whole committee.
“We’ll see what the final results are here,” said LaHood. “We’re going to win back the majority (in the House). I was happy to be a part of that. I think I bring a lot to the job of NRCC chair. But, we’ll wait and see how the election turns out.”
This part of the region has had big political leaders before. Outgoing Democrat Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline) once chaired the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
