PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria city elected leaders want more public input as they consider refining the city’s rules around marijuana dispensaries.
Some of the questions the city still wants answered include;
Should the City cap the number of dispensaries?? Should additional zoning or distance limitations be put in place?
Should the city’s current marijuana ordinance be amended to address social equity?
The Illinois Cannabis Social Equity Program was created as part of the 2019 (CRTA), to offer disadvantaged people and communities of color disproportionately impacted drugs an opportunity to benefit from the legal sale of cannabis.
A new online survey is being rolled out for public input and two face-to-face public input meetings have been scheduled to gauge residents’ ideas.
The survey will be open from October 27 through November 10 and can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CannabisPeoria
Additionally, the City will host two public meetings to gather additional input:
Wednesday, November 2, 2022, 6 PM – 7 PM, City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, Room 400
Thursday, November 3, 2022, 12 P – 1P on ZOOM
More information on Social Equity Criteria may be found on the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity website.
