SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Corn and soybean planting is almost done in all of Illinois.
The USDA’s weekly crop progress report indicates 95 percent of corn has been planted statewide, and an official says that’s right on pace with where the state should be.
“That is even with one year ago, and six points ahead of normal planting pace,” said Mark Schleusener, USDA state crop statistician. “89 percent of corn acres have emerged, compared to 80 normally. The Illinois corn condition improved from one week ago, and was rated one percent poor, 18 percent fair, and 81 percent good to excellent.”
County by county numbers are no longer put out.
Meanwhile, 88 percent of the state’s soybeans have been planted, and 75 percent of them are mostly in good to excellent condition.
Most of this area, the report says, has a normal amount of precipitation.
Most farmers, meanwhile, were able to get almost six full days of work done in their fields last week.
