PEORIA, Ill. – Starting now and running for the next few months, it will be “Blood Donation Night” at the old ballpark.
ImpactLife has put together a competition called “Out for Blood” between the Peoria Chiefs and the Quad City River Bandits, to see which area can get more blood donations.
And Kirby Winn with ImpactLife says those donations are needed now more than ever.
“We know that if we could collect 3,600 donations every week on a consistent basis, we’d be in great shape,” said Winn. “Looking at the weeks ahead, we’re 200 to even 600 donations short of that number every week.”
Another way to look at the dwindling supply, given that ImpactLife serves both major Peoria hospital systems, along with others in the Midwest: “We’re currently at about a one-day supply on O-negative,” said Winn. “It’s fluctuated between one to two days recently. Three to five days for (other blood types).”
You can go in to Peoria’s ImpactLife blood center any time between now and September 9th to make a donation, along with opportunities during Chiefs games at Dozer Park. Winn says appointments are recommended.
And, if you mention the Chiefs, your donation will count toward the total.
