Every year, typically, people will make their New Year Resolutions for the upcoming New Year…me, I like to make goals instead. I know, big picture what’s really the difference? The idea and hope of both, of course, is a ‘better you’ as you go about ringing in the New Year.
The big difference as I see it is resolutions can be broken within hours of the New Year, whereas goals don’t need to be finished until the time frame chosen is up. With goals, as long as they are realistic, there are no immediate pressures to succeed or fail, no stress of “ugh…I blew it!” With goals…I have 12 months to work towards what I want to achieve. I wrote a list of 20 goals I want to work towards reaching this year, here are a few:
1. Take a cooking class and then prepare a 3-course meal for friends.
2. Pay for a stranger’s food and drink.
3. Go Vegetarian for 2 separate months
4. Take a class at ICC
5. Learn to play the guitar and be able to easily play 3:30 minute song
6. Get back to running and run at least 1 half marathon
7. Each month, drive to and discover a new town that I’ve never been
8. Volunteer for at least 1 week
9. Hike the Grand Canyon from top to bottom and back up
10. Read a minimum of 10 pages a day of self-help (mindset) or entrepreneurial book .
I would be curious if you are a ‘resolutions’ or a ‘goal’ person…and would love to see some of your ideas that you are working on for 2020.
