PEORIA, Ill. – Fire in an apartment sent one person to a local hospital Christmas morning.
Firefighters found smoke coming from the first and second floors of an apartment house at 2730 W. Trewyn Ave. when they arrived at 1:40 a.m. Saturday.
Police officers on the scene advised that one occupant had exited the building.
Battalion Chief Michael Hughes said the fire was quickly knocked down in the kitchen. There was no damage to apartments on either side.
The occupant was evaluated on the scene and transported to a hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries.
An investigator determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
The property was secured and turned over to the Peoria Housing Authority. All other occupants were able to return to their apartments.
