UPDATE – PEORIA, Ill. – Charges have been filed against a man in custody following an officer-involved shooting in West Peoria Friday.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says Shavaun Leemon, 20, has been charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm for allegedly shooting at two Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies responded to the area of Park and Texas Roads around 6:15 p.m. regarding multiple incidents involving Leemon. Leemon was reportedly involved in a hit and run accident earlier in the day as well as a shooting.
Leemon was spotted in the area and deputies repeatedly told him to stop. Hoos said rather than comply, Leemon allegedly fired multiple shots at the deputies. At least nine shell casings were located. There were no injuries.
Authorities searched for Leemon until he was found at UnityPoint Health-Methodist around 9:40 p.m.
The incident continues to be investigated by Illinois State Police because the deputies returned fire.
Hoos said additional charges are expected to be filed against Leemon.
