PEORIA, Ill. — Thanks to a grant from the Gilmore Foundation, Illinois Central College will soon be providing free workforce readiness training to 20 local underserved students.
“The program will take them all the way from the pre-apprenticeship, getting ready to take those college-ready courses, to getting those credentials,” said Illinois Central College President Sheila Quirk-Bailey.
Quirk-Bailey told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” with the support of the Gilmore Foundation, ICC’s Manufacturing Workforce Equity Initiative will help expand the revitalization of central Illinois’ manufacturing workforce.
The Gilmore Foundation recently contributed $435,000 to implement the initiative aimed at removing barriers for struggling and under-credentialed members of our community.
“The exciting part of this is those individuals will all be people of poverty, with a high percentage being people of color,” Quirk-Bailey said.
With the help of grant money, ICC will be able to provide Earn and Learn and Workforce Readiness Skills programming for high-demand occupations of CNC Machine Operator, Production Welder, Welding Specialist, and Diesel-Powered Equipment Technician.
