PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Salvation Army Friday announced a successful Tree of Lights Campaign which raised money to support people struggling to get by in the Peoria area.
The 2020 campaign in Peoria raised $1,958,759; exceeding the goal of $1,650,000 for the year.
Major Jesse Collins, Tri-County Commander for the Salvation Army, expressed his gratitude.
“We are very blessed to be able to help those who can’t put food on their tables; who have nowhere to lay their head at night; and who haven’t been working throughout the pandemic and can’t pay their bills,” said Collins.
The money raised through the campaign will stay in the community and is used to provide services throughout the year for people in need.
The Salvation Army in Peoria says it has seen an overall increase in services requested in the past year.
During the last three months of the year, requests for rent or utility assistance more than doubled and they saw a 57% increase in the number of food boxes being distributed.
