At the start of the year I wrote down 20 goals that I wanted to accomplish during this year, and had been having a blast working on them one at a time. Then everything with the coronavirus hit and it kind of changed things, the mood was…..different. Now we have become school teachers to our kids, either non essential employees who have been furloughed or laid off, or maybe you’re an essential employee that might be trying to work at home, WHILE being your kids teacher. Either way, I like to make goals and work towards reaching them.
Goals number 7 (learn to play the guitar) and number 12 (learn enough Spanish to navigate and order food) are the two that I have currently set my mind on to reach. My kids have crazy natural talent at so many things, so you would think that I had some hidden somewhere in my body, wouldn’t you? Nope is the short answer. Oh sure, I can PUSH THE BUTTON to start a song…but I can’t actually play one on any type of instrument. This is where goal #7 comes in…I’m determined to learn how to play, never mind that I don’t know a single thing about notes or chords or whatever it is you use to play an instrument, I just want to learn to play.
I know all kinds of people that could probably teach me (John from John & Stephanie, Joe Stamm and ALL the members of the Joe Stamm Band to name a few), but I like those people and I don’t want them to hate me because I’m a dope when it comes to musical notes and how to play them. So I trudge on, that’s what we parents do and teach our kids to do, right? Oh quick side note, I have long skinny fingers that you would think would be perfect for the guitar (again the quick answer is NOPE), why can’t I get them to fit in where they need to go for a simple A chord? Ugh.
So, 2 questions…
- What have you learned the past couple of months
- Can someone please teach me how to play this sucker and promise not to think I’m a dope?!?!
