Have you wondered what it’s like to be a police officer?
Peoria residents can sign up for an upcoming Citizen Police Academy.
Public Information Officer Amy Dotson, with Peoria Police, says the seven week course will give students a better understanding of the operations of the police department. She says it creates a forum for officers and Peoria residents to interact in an informal setting.
“We’ll talk to the Crime Scene Unit. We’ll have a couple tours, then an active shooter presentation,” Dotson said.
Presentations will include burglary and scam prevention, mock traffic stops, and wrap up with simulated scenario trainings.
“They will act as the police, and then the police officers will be role players. So, they’ll get to actually play out simulated real-life scenarios that we have dealt with,” Dotson said.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and successfully pass a background check. Up to 30 people will be accepted for the seven week course that runs October 9-November 20.
The registration deadline is October 4.
