Former player and coach of Washington Community High School will not return to the school.
Hayley Reneau, 23, was arrested Monday for an alleged sexual assault relating to an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to a statement from the high school’s superintendent.
WCHS’s superintendent Kyle Freemen’s statement said that Reneau had resigned from employment with the school on July 29, 2019, and that she will not be returning to the high school.
The statement also said that the Department of Children and Family Services have been notified, and the student’s family had been contacted and school officials have no reason to believe any other students were affected.
In a statement, the Washington Police Department said “the charge alleges that Reneau held a position of trust, authority, or supervision in relation to the victim, who is at least 13 years old”.
Monday night Reneau was released from the Tazewell County Jail, she is due in court September 6.
The Washington Police Department will not release more information due to nature of the situation, and the victim is under the age of 18.
